The Padres, who expanded into the National League in 1969, hosted the 1978 All Star Game at San Diego Stadium. Dave Winfield received his second consecutive invitation to the mid-summer classic, representing the host city with one hit in two plate appearances. Winfield finished the year with a .308 batting average and 97 RBIs as the Padres wore a patch on their jersey to represent the arrival of the All Star Game....
