While barnstorming the West Coast, the World Champion New York Yankees played the University of California in an exhibition game on March 26. A young Mickey Mantle exhibited his power by blasting a 600 ft. home run, a testament of what was to come. Mantle wore the number 6 during his debut with the Yankees on April 17. After starting off slow the Yankees sent Mantle down to their Kansas City Farm Club.
